What: Three Day Training Institute
Where: California State University Sacramento, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, California 95819 Attendees: Red Cross volunteers, employee, and partner organizations. No outside guests allowed. Registration: Registration closes July 5, 2018 Cost: $35 Overnighter $25 Commuter You can attend one day or all three days. Attendance for the entire duration of the Institute is strongly recommended. The cost of the Institute covers lodging, training, and most meals. |

Things to know about the Fired Up - Gold Country Institute
Out of respect for our donor dollars, this event has been planned with an eye toward creating the most comprehensive training event possible for the least cost and the least environmental impact. You will see this demonstrated by the facilities selected and the training methodologies. By making those choices, more volunteers and employees can be trained on how to provide vital services.
You will have a choice between two tickets: Gold Country Leadership Institute Commuter or Gold Country Institute Overnighter. The $25 Commuter ticket includes lunch on Friday and Saturday. Dinner by reservation on Friday – be sure to let us know during registration! The $35 Overnighter ticket includes lodging and most meals beginning on Friday and will conclude with lunch on Saturday. No meals will be provided on Thursday, attendees will be responsible for their own meals. |
Going Green
This will be a paperless event. We will not be printing course materials – everything will be provided to you electronically before the event. You will be asked in the registration process if you have a device (i.e. laptop, tablet, Kindle, etc.) you can bring with you; if not, a loaner will be provided to you at the event. If you want paper copies of your course materials, you will need to print those and bring them with you.
Commuter v. Overnighter Ticket
$25 Commuter Ticket:
The $25 Commuter ticket includes three meals. They are lunch on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14. Also included is the Dinner and General Session on Friday evening. Be sure to RSVP for Dinner on Friday when you register.
$35 Overnighter Ticket:
The $35 Overnighter ticket includes dormitory style lodging and most meals beginning with lunch on Friday and concluding with breakfast on Sunday. The campus restaurant is located very near the dormitory with excellent food served cafeteria style. You will be able to choose what you like to eat. A full kitchen is also available in the dormitory for your use, along with a recreation room and study hall. Parking is nearby. Overnighters will also be able to use the campus swimming pool, tennis courts and other amenities while staying in the dorm.
Saturday July 14 Dinner – You are on your own for dinner. This is a free night. You will be able to explore campus eateries or the many great restaurants in Sacramento. Restaurant reservations around town are recommended for groups over 2.

What to bring
- Your curiosity, flexibility, and sense of humor. It's going to be a great weekend!
- Linens: Sheets, blankets /sleeping bag, pillow, towel(s).
- We recommend you bring shower shoes for the shared restroom facility near your room.
- Laptop, tablet, or other PDF reader if you have one available (or reserve one when you register or print your materials in advance and bring them with you).
- Snacks and drinks - feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks.
- Warm weather clothing. Bathing suit and beach towel if you would like to use the pool.
- Comfortable walking shoes are a must. There will be a fair amount of walking around campus.
- Please bring your own water bottle. The campus has filling stations for your use.
- A mug with lid if you are a coffee drinker during class.
Lodging
Overnight participants will be staying in the on-campus residence halls. Lodging will be available Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14. Each room has two single beds with multiple bathrooms and showers just down the hall. No linens will be provided by the facility. There are no elevators in the dormitory building so please pack light. If you have special lodging needs, please let us know during the registration process. Please, no pets or outside guests.
California State University - Sacramento
Classes and dormitory sleeping areas are in unconnected buildings and there is a 5-10 minute walk between them.
Parking is available near the dorm and classrooms. A Regular Daily parking pass is $7, a weekly pass is $15.00.
Coffee and water will be provided during breaks. No eating is allowed in classrooms.
The Weather: July in Sacramento is usually warm to hot during the day and a little cooler late in the evening. Bring a light jacket or sweater and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you have special dietary needs please provide information when you register.
